Program

Nurture Talent

With the common philosophy of “Challenging the physical limits and developing an information-oriented and energy-saving society”, the WISE Program aims at nurturing international pioneers who can lead the field of advanced photonic and electronic devices as well as related academic fields, specifically, those with the following abilities.

      1. Originality
      2. Holistic perspective
      3. Challenge ability
      4. International mindedness
      5. Self-dependence

Various Educational Programs Spanning Industry‐Government‐Academia

To nurture students equipped with the capabilities mentioned above, we will promote integrated education, which is a crux of this program, and remove the barriers between graduate courses while respecting the curricula of the Graduate School of Engineering, Graduate School of Science, and Graduate School of Informatics.

A multi-teacher guidance system will begin soon after students enter the master’s course program, and their perspective will be broadened through laboratory rotation.

As the students advance to the next academic year, those enrolling for this program will challenge each other at the “International Seminar Dojo”, where they will participate in overnight camps for discussions on research topics with overseas researchers.

Students will also experience “Field practice at partner organizations” and “International field practice” through short-term stays at partner organizations within Japan (national and other public research institutes and companies) and overseas partner universities that will offer them training.

A dissertation defense will be conducted to ensure international excellence of the students.

Various educational programs will also be implemented, such as introducing the “Innovation of Photonic and Electronic Devices Research Grant” system that will aid students’ research after reviewing research proposals based on students’ own ideas.
