Progress in High-Brightness and High-Functionality Photonic Crystal Lasers (PCSELs) - Toward the Realization of a Super-Smart Society (Society 5.0)

A research group led by Professor Susumu Noda and Assistant Professor Masahiro Yoshida of the Department of Electronic Engineering, Professor Maenaka de Zoysa, Associate Professor Kenji Ishizaki, Assistant Professor Takuya Inoue, and Assistant Professor Ryoichi Sakata of the Optoelectronic Science and Engineering Education and Research Center, has developed a photonic crystal laser with high brightness and functionality that are not found in conventional semiconductor lasers. The group led by Professor Takashi Inoue and Assistant Professor Ryoichi Sakata published a review paper on recent progress in photonic crystal lasers (PCSELs), which are expected to contribute to the realization of the coming ultra-smart society (Society 5.0).
